How to choose a painting for an office

A practical guide to selecting the perfect artwork based on the room, wall size and your company's identity.

Bedroom and workspace with framed landscape paintings

Art in an office is not decoration: it is communication. Here's what to consider before choosing.

1. Define the room's function

  • Reception: the first impression. Works with presence, colors aligned with the brand.
  • Meeting rooms: serene pieces that give character without distracting.
  • Work areas: moderate color and energy; art reduces visual fatigue.
  • Waiting rooms: contemplative works that make the pause pleasant.

2. The right size

Rule of thumb: the artwork should span two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of the wall or furniture it accompanies. A small painting on a large wall gets lost; a huge one in a hallway overwhelms.

3. Color and psychology

Blues and greens calm; earth tones and golds bring warmth and solidity; warm accents energize. Don't look for something that "matches everything": look for something that says something coherent with your brand.

4. Original vs. reproduction

An original artwork conveys authenticity — your clients can tell. It is also unique: no one else will have it in their reception.
